Maybe they ride the wave for a few months, some good donations come in, but then it slowly goes back to the same old issues. And of course many organizations can't afford to hire those firms in the first place...

The second traditional delivery mechanism was seminars.

Seminars seem like a cheaper option at first. Over two or three days you get 16 or 24 hours of content presented to you and it's like drinking from a fire-hose. You're motivated, and that's worth something, but at best you go home with two or three ideas that are maybe actionable. 

You go back to your office and stare at your computer screen and keep doing what you were doing before, occasionally remembering that thing you heard at that seminar that one time. 

Then you add up the cost of the seminar, including registration and travel expenses for one or two or three or more people in your office and realize it wasn't that cheap of an option after all.
